Imposters

At the heart of most financial scams are people pretending to be someone they are not – and imposters can be very convincing both in the way they approach you, and in what they say. We are reminded not to trust at face value that an email that arrives in your inbox bearing the name of someone you know, is actually from that person. That is one of the hardest scams to see, but the easiest to prevent. Did you know that if you click on the name of the sender the true email address it is coming from will be revealed? This means that those emails you receive from “Best Buy” or “Microsoft” or even a family friend may not be from them. We urge you to pause when you receive any email relating to asking for money, confirming a purchase, or scheduling a payment, verify the sender and then proceed. If you need any help in deciphering what is real and what isn’t, call us. We’re always here to help.
